This soap got its name straight from calendula. A mustard-ochre base rises like a hill into a cream sky, and the ridge of the soap is crowned with golden calendula flowers. Sunshine on the shelf even on a grey morning.

What does the sun do in a soap?

It holds its colour. Calendula is one of the few flowers that do not turn brown in soap — which is why you can actually see it on the finished bar; it is not a print or a promise on the label. The dried flowers also act as a gentle natural scrub on the surface — you feel it more than you see it. The scent is fresh and citrus-herbal: lemon, lavender and rosemary draw it into a summer garden, all in the form of pure essential oils.

The recipe combines saponified olive and coconut oil with castor oil and beeswax. Castor oil is a quiet worker — it takes care of a stable lather and only a little is needed. Beeswax gives the soap firmness; it is the only ingredient of animal origin we use, which is why this soap is not vegan. We say so out loud — what counts is always the composition of the specific bar, not the brand as a whole. The glycerine that forms during saponification stays in the soap. We make it by the cold process and cut it with a wire, so the line between ochre and cream sits a little differently on every bar.
