ON THE WAVES

From deep purple through coral and orange to sunny yellow — the layers of this soap flow into one another like the horizon over the sea at sunset. On the Waves is a design soap with a calm scent of lavender and fresh litsea cubeba, with added beeswax that makes the lather supple.

Why is there beeswax in the soap?

Wax makes the lather more supple — so it earns its place in the recipe rather than playing a decorative role. It is also the only ingredient of animal origin we use in the soap workshop, which means On the Waves is not one of our vegan soaps. We say it out loud: whether a soap is vegan is always decided by the ingredients of the specific bar, not by the brand logo. The rest of the recipe: made by the cold process, no palm oil, and the glycerine that forms during saponification stays in the bar. The base is saponified olive and coconut oil, with castor oil looking after the lather — the quiet workhorse of the recipe, and a little goes a long way.

The scent is in no hurry. Lavender keeps it grounded, litsea cubeba adds a citrus spark — a combination that suits an evening shower, when the day no longer needs chasing, only rounding off. It is carried solely by essential oils, and we build the composition with an eye on how it will smell in a month, not how it smells in the mixing bowl.

We pour the coloured layers by hand and wire-cut the soaps, so the waves break differently on every bar — your horizon will be one of a kind. The soap then cures on the shelf for at least 30 days; why it cannot go any faster is explained in our article why soap cures.

You can fill your home with the same calm accord, too — we have also blended it as the On the Waves essential oil blend. Between showers, let the soap dry out on a soap dish so your waves do not dissolve in a puddle. You will find more colourful pieces among our design soaps.
