How do you share soap in a family?
Ideally, you don't. When everyone has their own bar, the soaps take turns, have time to dry out between uses and last longer — so five soaps at once is not a whim but quite sensible logistics. And a soap is not a lifelong commitment: when it is used up, you simply pick another from the shelf.
We make all our soaps by the cold process, let them cure for at least 30 days and cut them with a wire. Bars that do not meet our standards after curing are set aside — only what we would put by our own sink goes into the set. Why that month-long pause between making and selling is not wasted time is explained in our article why soap cures. In short: time is part of the recipe.
The family set is a practical housewarming gift, a Christmas present for the whole household or a stock-up for the cottage where half the relatives pass through over the summer. The “who gets what” dilemma disappears — there is one bundle and it shares itself out, probably during the first weekend.
