BARE SKIN

The name says exactly what this is about. Bare Skin is a natural soap with no scent and no colourants — a recipe stripped down to the bare minimum, honestly honey-coloured, with a honeycomb relief on the surface. The only decoration it needs. It is one of the few recipes of ours with no allergens at all, which makes it a choice even for the most sensitive skin, for children and for anyone who finds scented soaps simply too much.

What is not in it — and why

No essential oil, no colourant, no preservative — a solid soap does not need one. The honey shade is not added; the soap gets it from a recipe in which beeswax does the work: the only ingredient of animal origin we use in the workshop, and only in selected soaps. The wax leaves skin supple. The whole composition otherwise fits in one sentence: saponified olive, coconut and castor oil, beeswax, glycerine and water — olive gives the soap a gentler character, coconut brings lather and hardness, castor holds that lather together. The lather is creamy and calm, exactly like the whole of this soap. Nothing extra. Nothing without a reason.

Unscented does not mean without character, though. A freshly unwrapped bar simply smells of soap — exactly the way saponified oil smells when nothing else gets a say — and the honeycomb relief gives it a face without a single colourant. Less really is more here; not as a marketing figure of speech, but as a list of ingredients.

As with all our soaps, we make it in Prievidza by the cold process, cut it with a wire and let it cure on the shelf for at least 30 days.
