CHRISTMAS FROM THE HIVE

Bees build honeycombs from wax and store their honey in them. In our workshop, we have turned that same wax into twelve Christmas ornaments. They are made of pure natural beeswax, with no added scent and no colourant: their honey-yellow colour comes from the wax itself — and so does their soft honey scent, subtle rather than strong.

Star, bauble and tree

The ornaments come in three shapes. The star carries a smaller star in relief at its centre. The Christmas bauble is decorated with dotted bands and tiny stars, the tree with wavy garlands and little stars in between. Each ornament has a gold string threaded through a hole, so you can hang it straight away — on the tree, on a branch in a vase or on a wrapped present.

All twelve come nestled in paper filling in a small MuSK gift box made of kraft paper. The present is ready: nothing to wrap, nothing to add. And the box comes in handy after the holidays too, when it is time to put the ornaments away.

They are ornaments, not candles or cosmetics, so please do not light them. And although they smell of honey, they are not for eating — that goes especially for curious children and pets. Beeswax melts at roughly 62 to 64 °C and softens well before that, so radiators, fireplaces, burning candles and direct sun through a window are no friends of these ornaments. If a fine whitish film appears on the wax over time, it is neither mould nor a defect but a natural property of beeswax; simply buff the ornament with a soft dry cloth.
