Custom production

Sometimes adding a logo to a finished product isn't enough. The product should smell like your brand, look like your brand and, ideally, be created for it from the very start.

That's why at MuSK we don't only make soaps and shampoo bars under our own name. Our soap workshop also produces custom batches for companies, hotels, guesthouses, weddings, events and private labels. Sometimes it's enough to adapt an existing product; other times we start with the recipe and create a new soap from scratch.

There are plenty of options. One thing, however, can't be adapted: time. Soap made the traditional way by the cold process has to cure for several weeks after it's made. That's why with custom production it's good to start before you begin counting down the days to the hotel opening, the wedding or the Christmas party.

Not every “custom soap” means the same thing.

The simplest route is to choose one of our existing soaps and create your own packaging or label for it. The recipe stays tried and tested, but on the outside the product can speak the language of your company, hotel or event.

If you want to go further, we can adjust the look, scent or other properties of the product. And for a private label, we can start right from the beginning and create a recipe of your own.

So not every project needs a new soap to be developed. And not everyone has to settle for a finished product with the logo swapped. At the start, we'll talk about what you want to achieve and choose the most sensible route accordingly.

Your own recipe.

When a new soap is being created, the recipe is its foundation.

It isn't enough to pick a few nice-sounding oils and mix them together. When designing it, we look at how the individual ingredients behave during saponification and what they do to hardness, lather, cleansing properties and the final feel in use.

So we design the recipe according to what kind of soap should come out at the end, not according to which ingredients look best on the label.

If you already have a recipe of your own, we can work from that too. We'll go through it from a technical point of view and tell you whether we can make it as designed or whether something will need adjusting.

Scent, colour and look.

Soap isn't bought by nose alone, but scent certainly doesn't play a minor role in choosing it.

In custom production we work with essential oils and their combinations. We can build the scent around the character of the brand, the setting or a particular occasion. A hotel in the middle of a forest may need a completely different character from a city brand or a summer wedding.

We work with colour and look in the same way. A soap can be minimalist, single-coloured, layered or marbled. It doesn't have to carry every colour of your logo to be yours — sometimes it's enough for the whole product to belong visually to the same world.

And since it's made by hand, the pattern of individual bars may differ slightly. With a marbled soap, we actually want it to differ. Every cut reveals a slightly different pattern.

Your name belongs on the packaging too.

A custom soap can have its own stamp, label, box or other packaging to suit the character of the project. We can work with your logo, colours, copy and existing visual identity.

With cosmetics, though, packaging isn't just a place for nice graphics. It also has to carry mandatory information, and for a product intended to be placed on the market, legal requirements need to be considered from the start.

That's why we don't deal with the graphics separately from the product itself. First we need to know what we're making and how the product will be used; only then does it make sense to decide what exactly its packaging has to carry.

To lather is human. And making good soap is our job.

For companies that don't want yet another pen with a logo.

A corporate gift has a rather thankless job. It should be universal, reasonably priced, attractive, usable and, on top of that, somehow connected with the company giving it.

Soap meets one essential condition: it's something that can genuinely be used up.

For companies, we can prepare custom batches for employees, clients, business partners, events or seasonal packs. Depending on the project, it can be an existing soap with individual packaging or a more distinctly customised product.

And yes, you can still put a logo on it. Only this time it doesn't have to end up in a drawer next to three promotional pens.

For hotels, guesthouses and apartments.

Hotel toiletries don't have to be an anonymous miniature that a guest uses and has forgotten the look of five minutes later.

A custom soap can tie in with the place where it's used — through its scent, look, name and packaging. It can be part of the room, a welcome pack or a range guests can buy to take home.

With accommodation in particular, it makes sense to think of the product as part of the overall experience. If a hotel stands in the mountains, by a vineyard or in the middle of a historic town, it doesn't need to have the same soap on the washbasin as a hotel five hundred kilometres away.

For weddings and events.

We also make smaller custom batches as gifts for guests. Your own names, the date, a few words or a visual can turn an ordinary soap into part of the whole event, without leaving behind yet another object that nobody knows what to do with.

With weddings and events, though, planning is especially important. We can't move the wedding date and we can't move the soap's curing either.

So if you want custom soaps for a specific date, get in touch well in advance.

And then there's private label.

Private label is a different discipline from a corporate gift with its own label.

If the soap is to be part of your own brand and you want to sell it long term, we approach it as a fully fledged cosmetic product. We deal with the recipe, target group, look, scent, packaging, production quantities and the repeatability of further production batches.

With a new cosmetic product, you also need to allow for the relevant documentation, safety assessment, labelling and other obligations required to place it legally on the market. We take care of all of it for you, of course.

How custom production works.

You don't need a twenty-page brief for the first contact. Four basic pieces of information will help us much more: what you want made, for what purpose, roughly how many pieces you need and when you need them ready.

Then we go through the scope of the project. We find out whether we can work from an existing recipe or whether development will be needed, what the options are for scent and look and what type of packaging you need.

If we're developing a product of your own, preparing the recipe and sampling come next. Only once the result has been approved do we plan the production itself.

We make the soap, pour it into moulds, cut it and, depending on the project, stamp it. Then we put it on the shelves.

And we wait.

The longest production step looks as if we're doing nothing.

Our soaps need to cure for several weeks after they're made. During curing, water gradually leaves the soap, it hardens and its properties settle.

We can't shorten this time just because you have an event in two weeks. We can't skip it for a larger order, and a surcharge for express production won't help either.

That's why we sort out the deadline right at the start.

After curing, we check and weigh every bar and reject any that don't pass; only then do final packing and dispatch follow.

How many pieces do you need to order?

That depends mainly on how much you want to change.

One production minimum makes sense for an existing soap with your own label and another for a product for which we develop a new recipe, source specific ingredients and prepare individual packaging.

So we don't want to pretend there is one universal minimum quantity for all custom projects. Send us your idea and the number of pieces, and we'll tell you what solution is realistic for that volume.

What we don't change in custom production.

Having your own brand doesn't mean the rules we make MuSK by no longer apply.

We make our soaps by the cold process and give them the time they need to cure. And if a brief doesn't make sense to us from a technical, safety or production point of view, we'll say so before we start making anything.

Your name can be on the label.

But we're still the ones behind the making.

(01)

Can I have soap made with my own logo?

Yes. Depending on the type of project, we can prepare your own label or packaging with your logo and visual identity. You don't necessarily need to develop a new recipe — for simpler projects we can also work from an existing soap.

(02)

Can you create a completely new recipe?

Yes. For custom and private label production, we can design a recipe according to the properties you want the product to have. If you already have a recipe of your own, we can also assess whether we can make it.

(03)

Can I choose my own scent?

We can create or choose a scent to suit the character of the project within the ingredients we work with. In our soaps we use essential oils, not fragrance blends.

(04)

How long does production take?

It depends on the scope of the project. For a new product, you need to allow for development and approval before production itself and for several weeks of curing after it. Packaging, quantity and current production capacity also feed into the schedule. So we set the exact date according to the specific brief.

(05)

Do you make soaps for hotels?

Yes. For hotels, guesthouses and other accommodation, we can prepare soaps with their own identity for rooms, gift packs or resale.

(06)

Can you make wedding soaps?

Yes. We can prepare soaps as a gift for guests with an individual label and the wedding's visuals. Since the date of the event is fixed and soap needs to cure, we recommend arranging the order well in advance.

(07)

Do you make products under a private label?

Yes. For a private label project, we can handle both the development of the recipe and the production itself. Since it's a cosmetic product being placed on the market, the project must also include the relevant legal and documentation steps.

Got an idea? Let's start with four details.

You don't need to know which oils to use, how much essential oil belongs in the recipe or what size the label should be. That's our part of the job.

In your first enquiry, tell us:

What you want made. For whom or for what purpose. Roughly how many pieces you need. And by when you need them.

From that, we can work out which route to take.

The soap can then carry your name. But it will still be made by us in Prievidza.

To lather is human. Having your own soap is seriously cool.
